Lesley Lababidi and I spent a year researching the chronological growth of citywalks in Cairo, Egypt, from 1970-2016, tracing initiatives (individual and organizational) across ten criteria. Those criteria emerged during interviewing over forty grassroots initiatives and citywalk organiser. We presented our paper #CityWalks: Another Perspective for Narrating the History of the City. Cairo, Egypt at the international conference: Inheriting the City: Advancing Understandings of Urban Heritage in Taipai, Taiwan, April 2016.

All results were presented in the form of two infographs and a map. One infograph visualises all the important data related to citywalks: starting dates, organizers, communication channels ... etc, and the map was a Time-Place analysis tracing the growth of citywalks in Cairo along three time intervals.
A public lecture presenting all the findings will take place fall 2016 here in Cairo. .. STAY TUNED

Finally we met ...... Spring Breeze!

望春風 Bāng Chhun-hong is a Taiwanese Hokkien song
The title literally means "Longing for the Spring Breeze".
The
English translation of the song:At night waiting alone under a dim lamp, with the spring breeze blowing on my cheeks,
I, an unmarried maiden of seventeen going on eighteen, see a young man.
I see he has a handsome face and a pale complexion; I wonder which family he is from?
Wanting to ask him yet fearing embarrassment, my heart flutters as if it were a pipa being strummed.
Wishing him to be the groom of mine, with love inside my heart.
Waiting, wondering when my beau might come to gather my blooming flowers of youth.
Suddenly I hear someone outside, and I open the door to see,
The old man under the moon (is a god of marriage and love in Chinese mythology)
laughs at my foolishness, for I did not realize it was just the wind.

Beitou district

They didn't know us but they shared their laughs, stories and ... blue mint bonbon. Then the few minutes ended up with a group photo with an extended family that we may not meet again!
They were keen where to take the photos and share their contacts with us.

This took place during The Qingming or Ching Ming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day in English, is a traditional Chinese festivalon the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, either 4 or 5 April in a given year. Other common translations include Chinese Memorial Day and Ancestors' Day.

Pineapple cake 鳳梨酥

In Taiwanese wedding tradition, the wedding cake has six flavors symbolizing six rites, among them being pineapple. Pineapple in Taiwanese Hokkien is pronounced onglai meaning "to come forth, prosperous and thriving", and symbolizes the hope that many children will be born to this family. The pineapple is also a common tribute Taiwanese people offer to venerate the deceased. In this case the corresponding phrases (Chinese: 旺旺/旺來) symbolize deep love for the ancestors.

Before visiting Taipei, I didn't know that "Taiwan ... Touch your heart" is the slogan of the city, but this was what I felt after 8ight days! I felt it with all my sensations as I was leaving … in many small gestures.

Taipei not only touched my heart, it caught my heart!
